Quilting Classes
Learn the relaxing art of quilting in classes taught by Sara Bradshaw. Whether quilting is a new hobby or you are looking to refine your skill, everyone can enjoy learning in these classes.
Raw Edge Reverse Applique
This is a six-hour class that begins by working with color and shade to create an improvisationally pieced quilt top. The quilt top is completely covered by a solid piece of fabric on top of batting and backing to make a quilt sandwich. This is then machine quilted in an improvisational pattern to create shapes that will be cut, exposing the piece below.
This will result in a spontaneous design with lots of texture.

This class is a flat fee of $500 and has a limit of 12 students. Irons should be available and extra room on the table or design wall space would be good for students to layout their designs.
I can also do a one hour trunk show about this technique with a PowerPoint presentation and several examples of quilts done using this technique. This can accommodate up to 40 people and is $200. This lecture can also be done via Zoom so students can learn the basics of the technique for a fee of $50.00.
Big Stitch Quilting
This is a three-hour class that focuses on the tools and techniques needed to begin big stitch quilting and the basic process of stitching. No hoop required!
Students will create their own sampler from several different types of specialty thread and use a variety of tools and notions. When they are done with the class they will have a very good idea of what tools work best for them and how different kinds of threads will actually look in their work. A $20 fee is needed for a kit that includes the basic tools of big stitch quilting and thread. The fee can be paid by the student at the time of the class. This class is a flat fee of $250 and can accommodate 12 students.

Visible Mending
This class teaches the basics of patching and repairing clothing, quilts, and other woven textiles using scraps and big stitch quilting. It is similar to Boro mending, much more improvisational and freestyle than Sashiko stitching. The students will learn how to make functional patches and repairs but will do so with an emphasis on the process, enjoying the quiet peaceful nature of hand stitching. A $20 fee is needed for a kit that includes the basic tools of big stitch quilting and thread. The fee can be paid by the student at the time of the class.
This class is a flat fee of $250 and can accommodate 12 students. This is an excellent class to pair with the Big Stitch class making it a six hour, “Stitch Lounge Unplugged” workshop.

FAQ
What supplies do I need to bring?
Supply lists will be sent upon class confirmation.
Do I need to know how to sew beforehand?
Sewing skills needed are dependent upon the class. Please contact me for details.
How much fabric is needed for class projects?
The amount of fabric varies with each class and technique. Please contact me if you have questions.
What type of sewing machine should I use?
This is class dependent and some classes don’t even require a machine!
How long does it take to complete a class project?
Many classes focus on techniques so there is not a specific project. Others have small projects that are completed by the end of the class. Either way most are done in a way that they can be used as a reference for future projects.
Are classes better for beginners or experienced quilters?
The level of skills needed varies by class. Most are easy to adapt to the students abilities.
Can I bring my own project to work on?
Most classes involve a specific technique so the project is dictated by the class with details added by students. The visible mending class is the only one that does ask the student to bring their own projects.
What is the typical class size?
Class sizes are usually kept small, around 6-12 students, to allow for personalized instruction. But this can vary by class.
